Definitely go here when you need to side-step the usual downtown scene while you're downtown.

This is the best no-frills watering hole in the city

I love this place! It's one of my favorite little dives to go to in Charleston, a must go on your downtown bar hopping route. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is because it tends to get real crowded after midnight. Otherwise It's one of the greatest dives of all time! The current owner Chris has done a great job of keeping Big Johns traditions alive. You haven't lived a full life until you've had the Big Johns experience.
