Having received kudos from nearly every restaurant critic lucky enough to have expensed a gourmet meal here, 82 Queen is regarded as one of Charleston's premier dining establishments. They specialize in fancy low-country dishes (like grilled Carolina quail over grits for $17.95 or shrimp and crawfish jambalaya for $16.95), but the menu is varied. You can follow up a bowl of award-winning she-crab soup ($4.50) with an order of the grilled pork tenderloin ($16.95). And you know whatever you get will be expertly prepared -- chef Steve Kish has won awards locally and are often featured in culinary industry publications for their innovative dishes. When the weather's nice, try to get a table in the courtyard garden.

Disappointing
By EHinkes on 07/19/2008
Overpriced and inconsistent. Our first meal there was very good. We dined there several months later, expecting to find the same quality, and were disappointed. The food was mediocre with the exception of the shecrab soup. A panfried seafood dish was steamed and tasteless; the steak was fatty; both were served lukewarm. The dessert was ordinary. Our complaint to the waitress was brushed off. We e-mailed a complaint and did not receive an answer.

very good ... but not quite great
By Ctpeter on 07/12/2008
In a city with a plethora of fine restaurants, its tough to be comparatively great... but 82 queen , along with Hanks, Chas grill,Fig,Tristan ( My personal favorite), SNOB and Oak are all fine examples of the right blend of fine food, attentive southern service, and reasonable pricing given the quality of the experience
