Rate and Write a Review Restaurants like the Peninsula are what dining in Charleston is all about. Its plantation-style decor (complete with olive-green velvet walls, 19th-century oil paintings and black-iron chandeliers), sophisticated clientele and friendly staff are all reminiscent of a bygone era of aristocratic Southern hospitality. The four-star menu is consistently good. Standouts include the New Zealand rack of lamb ($28.00), grilled venison chops ($28.00) and wild mushroom grits with oysters (appetizer portion, $7.50). There is also a separate but equal menu of lighter fare at the Champagne Bar.

EXCELLENT FOOD AND WINE LIST
WE ATE THERE WITH TWO OTHER COUPLES ON SUNDAY APRIL 15TH. THE FOOD WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD AND WE EAT AT A LOT OF CHARLESTON RESTAURANTS. WE COME FROM SIXTY MILES AWAY TO SPEND THE NIGHT, SHOP AND EAT. THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN TOWN, FOOD SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE.
I agree w/ 8/18/05
My wife and I are young professionals and look even younger. Food was fine but staff seemed a bit aloof. Keep in mind people, if we are willing to pay your prices we can afford a 40+$ tip. Better luck next time j/o and remember, you never know who you are dealing with!
Charleston is NOT Atlanta
and Charlestonians are not necessarily impressed by "executives from Atlanta." Charleston has its own rhythm and its own pace. If you are going to go out for dinner at a 4 star restaurant in Charleston, plan on being there at least 3 hours. Peninsula Grill is first class. But, if you are in a hurry or need you are ego stoked by fawning wait staff, there's always Applebee's sport.
Poor Service
We had executives come from Atlanta on business this past week and ate here for dinner on Wednesday evening.
There was barely any customers there. The food was good but we did not get served for 2 hours.
Very poor service and definitely not worth the wait, when you are trying to please executives.
