This is a good place for the upwardly mobile in search of designer labels. Though not as luxurious as the traditional, old-money department stores, Belk features all the same mainstream designers as its big-city brethren. The men's department is particularly strong, with large collections from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Perry Ellis; while the women's department seems to be an homage to Liz Claiborne. Belk also has a few private brands that will surprise label seekers with their quality. Housewares feature many of the same designers, with the Tommy Hilfiger label attached to everything from pillows to shower curtains.
