For the traveler weary of the cookie-cutter chain hotels, the Dunhill offers a refreshing break. This historic site was once the Mayfair Manor, opened in 1929. Closed for seven years, the Dunhill was re-opened in 1988 and restored to its original poise and moxie as one of Charlotte's most elegant places to stay. Filming of the CBS mini-series 'Shake Rattle and Roll' took place here, closing down the streets of Uptown to allow classic cars and thespians dressed in '50s garb to stroll the streets. The Dunhill was the perfect fit, as its classic air is a time capsule to the luxurious days of yore. Be sure not to miss the pub on the ground floor that looks out over the corner of Tryon and Sixth.
