A Charlotte old timer will remember creamy milkshakes from the original Pike's on Shamrock. Today, trolley riders can take a pit stop in South End to visit Pike's redux. It's more of a nod to the bygone days of the drug store soda shop when kids twirled lazily on chrome counter stools and slurped sundaes while customers waited on prescriptions--it's no longer the real thing. Nevertheless, Pike's still displays their original Rexall Pharmacy sign along with other past knickknacks. The food is a bit more upscale than the drug store fare of old, although burgers and sandwiches are still a staple. At lunch, Pike's is packed with designers and other business folks from the adjacent design district who order faves like grilled pimento cheese and chicken salad. Weekends bring a healthy breakfast crowd and families from the nearby trolley tracks. A spot on the patio is perfect for trolley watchers. Pike's Sunday brunch is popular with Dilworth and SouthEnd residents and can leave you waiting for a table. Also, note that parking is very limited and you won't be seated unless your entire party is present.

A surprising treat!

Living in the NY/NJ metro area, I must say Pike's was a pleasant surprise. There is NO place like this back home. Their Sunday brunch... fresh Eggs Benedict, sausage and bacon that wasn't too salty, fresh baked date nut bread, thin buttery scones, thick and rich cheesy hash browns, fresh blueberry and pecan french toast, and homemade chunky applesauce. Lots more but I couldn't fit one more bite into my mouth. Oh yeah - the waitress was pleasant, too! Don't miss this place when in Charlotte.

Food is okay here, nothung great. Prices are good, but portions are small. Service is excellent. Hand-stirred Pepsi's are great as are their malts and milkshakes. Nice nostalgic place.

On a spring break trip to Charlotte we went to Pike's and it was the highlight of the vacation. The delicious, southern food was excellent and really enjoyed the overall atmosphere.
