Skyland Family Restaurant   

You know those restaurants run by a hard-working family -- the places where the food is family-style, the windows have chintzy curtains, and the atmosphere is casual and the food's a little greasy? Skyland Family Restaurant is one of those. You'll pull up to a humble brick exterior and head inside to a lobby covered with autographed pictures of famous wrestlers. Patrons are seated in a dining area with kitschy framed prints of vegetables, lots of natural light and great window seating (though the view is only South Boulevard). Skyland has the character and careworn charm of the mom-and-pop joint, Greek style. The menu is Southern favorites like calabash shrimp, fresh vegetables and fried okra, as well as hot oven subs and breakfast anytime. It's open 24 hours, so you can satiate those pancake cravings anytime -- and get in some pretty good late-night people-watching while you do it.
