Alfred and Charlie's is a cozy, comfortable place located in a renovated house. That, coupled with the friendly and effusive staff, makes you feel like you're dining at a friend's house, not at a restaurant. The menu features all the 'cue you've come to love: slow-roasted pork, barbecued chicken, ribs and the like, along with barbecue essentials like hush puppies and sweet tea. Best of all, the prices are low and the portions are large. What more could you ask for?

Ripped Off

It was the worst I have ever eaten. Not just the worse BBQ but the worse food and the worse service I have ever gotten anywhere. We tried it because we had a coupon for buy one meal and get one free. The bill was higher than it would have been without the coupon. When we said something was wrong with the bill the cashier said yes there is and charged us four more dollars. I hate to give them this one star but afraid it will not go through without any stars.

Sunday Brunch

I've eaten many a meal from Alfred & Charlie's at numerous catered meetings, and found them all to have been well prepared without being overly cooked, tasty without being overly seasoned, and usually containing healthy selections. I visited it for the first time for Sunday Brunch, and truly enjoyed the experience because the dining experience inside is so much more than one would expect looking at the single family house structure on the outside, the kitchen was visible when walking in and out, the sanitation code was high, the neighborhood was nice, the ambience made me feel sort of "tucked away" in a "hide-away" while dining with my companion, and the prices were reasonable. Alfred & Charlie's is probably Gastonia's "best kept secret," and now the "secret" is out. I'll be back, especially for Sunday Brunch!
