A smoky, English-style pub downstairs and a restaurant upstairs, Big Ben has a foot on each side of the pond, as it's owned by an American and a Brit. Take your morning meal in style here with the full English breakfast: eggs, beans, sausage, bacon, sauted mushrooms, fried tomato and toast. Slap on some ketchup and tell all your friends you've done breakfast British-style, and it's almost as greasy as the way we do it over here. There's plenty more English-style eats on the menu, like Cornish pasties (meat-filled turnovers), shepherd's pie, bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes) and of course, fish and chips, here appearing as crunchy slices of haddock served with malt vinegar and tender fries. A few American touches turn up on the menu, like good ol' fried cheese. If you gotta order that, at least head downstairs to the pub for a round of darts and a Guinness.

Something Different
By wonderfulwilson on 04/13/2006
This isn't a fine dining experience but then again it's not supposed to be. The food is very good. Comfort food. The staff is incredibly friendly. They're doing well for a place that just opened and should continue to improve. If you're looking for a casual place that's not the same as every Charlotte bar, this is worth checking out. It will definitely get a group of regulars. The only down side is the bar, not dining area, can get very smokey. For those that don't smoke, it's miserable. Hopefully they'll improve the ventilation. Be brave, try something different.
