Despite the name, forget the cluttered cantina look: Cantina 1511 is sleekly contemporary. Some simple pottery accessorizes wood textures and deep sunset-on-the-beach colors. Cantina 1511 strives for upscale Mexican dining, introducing the refined flavors of the Yucatan. Think Mexican for grown-ups, like elegant snapper Veracruz and tender chicken with rich mole sauce spiked with peanuts. Earthy achiote-marinated chicken introduces complex layers of taste. Chicken turns up again in a new take on enchiladas, with spinach and manchego cheese. Kids are happy here, too, scarfing down Tex-Mex reliables such as tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Guacamole is an 'at the table' preparation accompanied by on-the-side and fiery peppers. Side dishes are a kick, such as the smoky charro beans, fried plantains or zesty scallion and green chile mashed potatoes.
