La Paz Restaurante   

Although many Charlotteans worried that this culinary mainstay's move to South End would affect its comfortable feel and flavorful food, it was all for naught. Since the move, it's improved. Order a margarita and wait for a table on the outdoor patio. The food, while not authentic Mexican, is hearty and doesn't disappoint. Appetizer selection includes all the basics like guacamole, chili con queso, black bean soup and jalapeno poppers. Lunches are quick and cheap, and not so large that you'll have to pull a George Costanza nap underneath your desk when you get back to the office. Most entrees come with rice and beans on the side, and chips and salsa are presented at each table upon seating. Don't forget to try the cheese dip and guacamole with your chips and as a topping for your entrees. Be sure to order one of La Paz's legendary margaritas. Among the choices: the La Pazarita, made with Sauza Hornitos, Cointreau and La Paz's special margarita mix; the Texas, made with gold tequila, orange liqueur and La Paz margarita mix; and the La Paz Original, a blend of tequila, Hiram Walker triple sec and the house- made margarita mix.
