Wolfman's Pizza   

California-style pizza -- featuring unusual toppings with a gourmet West coast twist -- is the specialty of the Charlotte pizza chain known as Wolfman Pizza. Brothers Barry and Chris Wolfman started making their signature pies in 1991 in Pineville's McMullen Creek shopping center. A year later, a local alternative mag voted them best pizza in Charlotte, an accolade they've now won year after year.At Wolfman, expect unusual taste combinations like the mojo (marinated whole black beans, lime jerk chicken, green pepper, roma tomatoes, red onion, black olives and fresh garlic) and the Led Zeppelin (marinated roma tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, black olives, red onion, roasted red pepper, fresh garlic, jalapenos and Italian sausage). Specialty pizzas aren't your only choice: Diners can build their own pies, selecting from exotic sauces like black bean sauce and honey mustard, nine meat toppings, eight cheeses and a whopping 21 different vegetables. Salads, pasta and ''howlzones'' (calzones) round out the menu.
