Diamond Restaurant   

Recently, I read several rave reviews about a Charlotte landmark establishment, The Diamond Restaurant. So my family & I decided to check it out for dinner last night. Our experience follows..... The place was empty with the exception of one other couple. Best kept secret in town we smugly said to ourselves. We were promptly greeted by a friendly waitress. So far, so good! She proceeded to recite a litany of menu items they were out of. OK, no problem. We made other choices. They also were out of THOSE items. Not so OK but we placed our orders and forged on, starving & eager to try the wonderful food we had heard so much about. To cut to the chase (literally & you'll find out why soon) I saw a "bug" scurry across, then under the table. Then one of his/her siblings followed in hot pursuit. Next, Big Daddy, whom my husband ID'd as a roach (insert scream!!) lazily crawled across the table in search of his offspring. I gave him a big swat with my napkin and quickly disposed of "the body" lest my elderly mother see him and pass out cold. The food arrived and suddenly we found ourselves competing with "The Roach Family" for the dinner entrees. My husband slapped me on the back, then smiled with a satisfied look on his face and exclaimed, "got him!" Need I say more? I kid you not, those suckers were scurrying everywhere! We left quickly, barely touching our food. As we apprached the counter to pay, we informed the cashier that our table was full of roaches. Very apologetically she informed us that the exterminators had been there last week, as if that excused the situation? We were not offered a refund, or even a partial-refund. My skin had the creepy-crawleys the rest of the night. The 90% sanitation rating on the wall was far too generous based on our findings. Here's a tip for the Meck. Co Health Department: you might want to put the DR at the top of your list for a surprise visit. As for my family, we made two trips in one to the Diamond Restaurant -- first and last. THE END! !!!

Great food and a warm atmosphere. Owner keeps an eye on everything.
