Ever wondered what a Vieux Chateaux Gaubert tasted like but didnt want to splurge on a whole bottle to find out? Try Bills Flight of Fancy sampler at Tastings and youll get a half glass of said wine, along with sample sizes of Tantara Chardonnay and Zind Humbrecht Pinot dAlsace. The names sound fancy; but Tastings goal is to educate, not to intimidate. They want you to have fun sampling their wares, and they provide as much or as little guidance in this endeavor as you request. Since Tastings is also a wine shop, they offer any of the 1,000-plus wines in their shop for sale in the restaurant for the retail price of the bottle plus a small uncorking fee, expanding your options even further.A grape motif dominates this charming little space just off the Downtown Mall. Youll find grape stencils on the walls, grape appliqus resembling etched glass on the doors, grape cutouts on the paper lampshades on each table, a carved stone grape pillar even an ornate glass grape lamp from France that dominates the bar. The dinner menu is stiff competition for the wine list, with entres like scallops in red pepper cream sauce and oak-grilled duck breast.
