In a city where big is usually better, this slick little boutique hotel manages to stand out. Amalfi Hotel, a diminutive destination that holds only 215 guest rooms on six floors, pays homage to Italy's beautiful Amalfi coastline. Lush, low-slung furniture created by the award-winning Cataldo Interiors Group and contemporary artwork add a stylish yet homelike atmosphere to each room. The River North hotel also offers many amenities, including complimentary cocktails upon arrival, a fitness center and state-of-the-art electronics in each guest room. Yet its biggest selling point is the service. Dubbed ''service performers,'' the savvy staffers have fancy-schmancy titles like experience designers (concierges), impressionists (doormen) and comfort stylists (housekeeping). Overall, the hotel's concept maintains a fashionable edge, from the front room lobby, where guests may relax on clubby furniture, to the sixth-floor (hotel residents only) lounge for complimentary cocktails and appetizers every day. Tourists will be happy to know that Amalfi is around the corner from the House of Blues, across the street from legendary steakhouse Harry Caray's and steps away from a number of trendy lounges and dance clubs.
