Fitzgerald's   

Out in the suburbs, live music is rare. Or, like that seen in the Blues Brothers, it involves a chicken wired stage. Not so at Fitzgerald's. Look carefully when you drive out to Berwyn for the club, otherwise, you will probably miss it the first time out. But when you do arrive, parking won't be a problem. It's a nice change from going to a club downtown. Inside the old, but well maintained, roadhouse, there is a small stage and a relatively small seating area. Performances are, in a word, intimate. Well mannered crowds, even when packed, still give artists either enough room and respect to explore an intimate set or enough energy and enthusiasm to keep up with a blistering set of uptempo numbers. Couple this with a crisp sound system, and you are in for a treat if the artist is one of your favorites. But the acts here are only national within their genres, e.g. renowned zydeco or bluegrass acts, so you probably won't be familiar with who is on stage. Not to worry though, Fitzgerald's only books quality acts. For example, club favorite Marcia Ball got her start here and C.J. Chenier drops by on most tours.--Patrick Delahunty
