Add Sound-Bar to the long list of after-hours spots in River North, truly making this area the most diverse in the city when it comes to nightlife. Club 720 caters to a mostly Latin crowd. Excalibur pulls in heavy suburban and tourist traffic. Voyeur gets the urban contemporary partiers. And White Star -- just across the street from Sound-Bar -- attracts a young, uber-trendy demographic. So what's left for Sound-Bar, which boasts a super sound system, super staffers and a super-duper DJ lineup? With 20,000 square feet to play around with, the possibilities are endless for this club owned by former Zentra and Elixir partner Stefan Billen. Designed by Slick Design & Manufacturing Inc., who also decorated the trendy Y and Syn, the venue's accents include stainless steel, smoked glass, floor-to-ceiling walls of frosted glass, fine European-made furniture and state-of-the-art visual presentations (with digital media, video projections, laser stimulation and the latest in automated effects and lighting systems). Upstairs you can find the dance floor, sporting fog machines and plenty of high-tech lighting and the Round-Bar, a lounge decked in deep purple with couches surrounding the circular bar. Downstairs are two lounges, the Red and Orange Rooms, that are enclosed in clear glass walls, and the private Green Room, meant for the high rollers. Musically, the club plans on having top-notch local and international talent. Residents include Lego and Diz on Thursdays and John Curley, Chris Tomasone and Jernell Geronimo on Saturdays. Curley, previously known for his work with the Pure, will be in charge of talent and has DJs like Laurent Garnier and Seb Fontaine booked to perform.Cover is $10 Thursdays and $20 on Fridays and Saturdays, though a special discount card, the Sound-Card, is available to frequent guests and carries certain discounts and preferential treatment when entering the club.

Mediocre Place to Party...
By greendaychica02 on 08/27/2008
I've gone to this club 4 times over the past 2 years. Here's what I've found stays true every time... 1) 20 bucks cover charge for dudes, 10 bucks for girls. Now, I come from LA/Orange County area, where girls dont even pay to get into clubs like Mood, LAX and Sutra Lounge, so cover charge is kind of ridiculous to me. I suppose guys won't care too much either way... until they get in the club and notice the lack of good looking people. The only clubs that are more ridiculous in price and line length than this one are Vegas clubs. (Tao, anyone?) 2) Going back to 1, there is a major lack of good looking people. Now, if you're going to charge cover, make people wait anymore than 20 minutes to get in and charge 10 bucks minimum for drinks, most of your patrons would probably expect a few important things, one of them being good looking people. At the aforementioned clubs, there is definitely a surplus. At Soundbar, definitely not. Don't get me wrong, there are always a handful of decent looking people that heard from someone the place was chill and end up there cause it was closer via cab than Underground. 3) Drink prices. Like I said, if you're going to bullshit your patrons this much at the door, give them something back when they get inside. Last time I was there we got bottle service. Still a rip off, but a bottle of Patron SIlver was 150 along with mixers. Probably a better deal that waiting 15 minutes in line for the same drink that costs 10 bucks. 4) Music is actually pretty good. The dance floors are setup really weird and are messed up by the flow of people trying to get drinks, so its difficult to get down unless you're crazy drunk and dont care. If you want a club that's worth the wait/cover, I highly recommend trying out something else. I've been to Underground and Revolution and had a much better experience with the above concerns. Underground tends to have better looking people. Good luck...

Foreign Owners Don't Get it.
By hardroc711 on 03/31/2007
These foreign owners Stefan Billen from Zentra and Mark Jurzcyk from Players Club don't understand how to treat american customers. That is why most people don't go their and have something negative to say about the Club.

Viva la musica!!
By lilbutrflyx920 on 06/06/2005
Definately my favorite club! I never have a bad time when I go to SoundBar. The music upstairs is AWESOME. A lil hip hop and sometimes some reggae downstairs is cool too. The drink prices are typical for a downtown location. And most weekends cover is free or $10 before 10 or 11 if you RSVP. Don't take my word for it, go this weekend and see for yourself!!!!
