If you are steadfast for Chardonnay, or if Chianti is your staple but you feel the nightlife doesn't cut it, then Webster's Wine Bar offers the relief you seek. This wine bar won't leave you wanting, offering the calm, cozy atmosphere in which wine is most enjoyed. With more than 40 wines by the glass, you will never tire of sampling Webster's wares. If sampling is your thing, take off on one of Webster's famous "flights". A flight consists of three-to- six 2oz tastes of your choice of wine. Every month Webster's chooses a feature wine, and tastings are organized accordingly. A few small tables create an intimate atmosphere for discussions. In the backroom or "library" old bookshelves line the walls and red velvet sofas give the room a burgundy study feel. Cigar smoking is permitted-with the permission of staff. The top floor is a larger room complete with fireplace. This room is generally booked weeknights for private functions, classes, or tastings. A tasting is a casual event designed to introduce the feature wine of the month and its characteristics. Classes are a bit more formal ranging from the basics of wine tasting to more specific subjects, such as famous wine regions. Webster's also serves liquor from its full bar. A small kitchen offers up appropriate appetizers to enhance your tasting experience. The foods are well chosen with everything from cheese plates and pates, to quiches and charcuterie. Monday nights host live music, usually of the jazz genre. While the weeknight crowds tend to be mellow, the music is a far cry from quiet jazz. It's more of a funky mix, with acid jazz overtones. The atmosphere stays relaxed while giving Webster's a bit of movement, so as not to let the wine take its toll. -- Tara Bukow
