The Abbey Pub, owned by Ireland's wife-and-husband team Bridget and Thomas Looney, offers a community-oriented vibe to attract a diverse crowd. On St. Pattys Day -- its choice number one for all Chicagoans. As of recent, this North Side venue has become popular with a younger progressive music scene. Weekly highlights include 'Girls Night Out,' featuring guest musical artists and half prices on food and wine (Monday), an open-mic night (Tuesday) and 'Why Not Wednesdays' with guest artists and $5 meatloaf dinners. On the weekends, performers range from traditional and contemporary Irish musicians to indie-rock bands. Traditional Irish fare complements the atmosphere, with such offerings as curry fries, an Irish BLT (with thick, Irish bacon), Guinness meatloaf, fish and chips, and Shephard's pie. Beer enthusiasts get extensive imported and domestic choices by the tap or bottle. -- Audarshia Townsend

The Looney family has built a wonderful pub / restaurant here. The building has an auditorium that is a great music venue. You can't help having fun here.

If you're really lucky and find the place full of Irish (born and bred). Sit back and enjoy the conversation. You'll save the price of air-fare,for the price of a pint.
