A relative newcomer on the Halsted strip, Artopolis offers great food in a relaxed setting. This Mediterranean bakery/cafe has become a favorite with young, trendy locals and students at the nearby UIC. It's a great place to stop in for a pastry or sit down to a full lunch or dinner. And it won't break the bank. Hardly any entree costs over $10, and patrons can enjoy a full meal with drinks for about $15. Combine the hearty food with friendly service, and you may feel as though you have stepped into the life of a Greek god. While no one will feed you grapes, feel free to indulge in the decadent soups, sandwiches or homemade ''artopita'' -- a puff pastry filled with your choice of ingredients. The pizza is also a treat, made in a traditional wood-burning oven. And this is one place you can't skip dessert. Fresh cookies and cakes are made daily, and their artistry is showcased at the in-house bakery. The elaborate fruit tarts and delicious almond cookies have become customer favorites. Consider yourself in the minority if Steve Alexander, the manager, hasn't greeted your table before you pay the check. His jovial energy transcends both floors of this authentic Greek market and infuses friendliness into the service and atmosphere. -- Vanessa Nichols

Slow Service
By REMdonna on 06/11/2008
Been to this restaurant three times with Greek boyfriend and while their food is wonderful, the service is very, very slow and was slow all three times. Once we just got coffees and dessert and it took almost 45 minutes. Nice hot spot and atmosphere but be ready for spending a LONG time there.

Unfortunately, BAD SERVICE
By zooooopuilam on 05/22/2007
they have good food, great style, great place, but unfortunately, really bad service. Last time, i ordered three 10 inches cakes for mother's day. The lady told me that i can not order any extra fruit topping. When I picked up my cakes, the clerk only put 1,2,3,4,5 five raspberry on the top. Oh my god. then i tried to compliant to the manager. he did not feel any apologize and try to put the responsibility to me. i feel so disappointed.
