When classmates Jeff Wilcoxon and Chris Hill decided to enter a business plan for an ice cream parlor in the University of Chicago's business grant competition in 2003, little did they know that they were on to something. But when the concept placed them in the finals, they decided to open Bobtail. But they didn't want to open just another ice cream parlor. With partner John Rutledge, a veteran in the service industry, they opened a classic soda fountain and contemporary caf. But what sets their shop apart from Lakeview's many options is a little family secret that Wilcoxon brought with him from his hometown in Ohio: His family has been in the ice cream biz for more than 50 years. Some of their whimsical family touches have been added to the ice cream here at Bobtail, such as the waffles and ice cream. But the true highlight are the four signature flavors: Winter Commute, white chocolate macadamia nut; Lakeview Barhopper, chocolate and bourbon-flavored ice cream; Daley Addiction (named after Da Mayor), French vanilla and butter fudge; and the most popular, the Signature Sunset, a merlot-flavored ice cream with chocolate chips. The little storefront also scoops out the usual frozen suspects (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) as well as sorbets and low-carb ice creams. For those looking for a quick bite, try the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grilled cheese, muffins and fruit.

i came in one day expecting to be treated with respect and courtisy, but instead was forced to wait while the server talked with her coworker until she noticed me and then gave me attitude the whole time she dealt with me , like i had insulted her by wanting her to do her job. on top of that the ice cream is only mediocre definantly not worth the price they want, 4 bucks for a milk shake come on.

The Atmosphere is absolutly wonderfull, but the service and product were not worth the commute to me.
