Fans of Pilsen's famous BomBon Bakery can get more of the good stuff at the outpost in the same neighborhood. At BomBon Cafe, customers settle into the cozy confines of the Mexican-inspired dining room to munch on traditional South of the Border specialties and sweets. Owners, chefs and husband-and-wife team Laura and Luis Perea consider this extension the perfect outlet to showcase what they can do outside of their bakery. In addition to their decadent tres leches cakes and piedras (chocolate-topped dried bread pudding), this Bombon offers freshly baked tortas, or crispy Mexican sandwiches, that are stuffed with various meats, as well as tamales and mini quesadillas. For those looking for more ''Americanized'' meals, the shop features a somewhat limited menu of daily sandwiches (made with fresh artisan breads), soups and salads. Weekend mornings are usually filled with diners coming for the pastries, tarts and cupcakes.

Diamond in the Rough

Freshly made, delicious food. My boyfriend and I stumbled into this place on our way to a Bulls games. We trying to take cover from a blistering snow storm. Turns out it was meant to be! The torta sandwiches #1 and #2 were so good, and big, yet we devoured it all! Service was decent, and the bathroom was pleasant...always a plus. Definately going back....on a sunny, warm day.
