Chicago is full of them: late-night haunts where weary nightcrawlers can twiddle into to wind down from a hard-core night of partying. Wicker Park and Bucktown boast the Hollywood Grill. Gold Coasters crave Tempo. And Lakeview's party people pull up to Clarke's (another location is in Lincoln Park) when everything else is closed. The cheery, yet unassuming diner offers the usual suspects (pancakes, club sandwiches, burgers), but also hearty meals such as steak dinners and spaghetti and meatballs if your stomach can hold up. Other favorites include the house potatoes, milk shakes and omelets. Clarke's also caters to the daytime folks, who stop by for breakfast during the normal hours as well as lunchtime meals. This Lakeview location is ideal after a night out at one of the area bars like Berlin, Schubas or Cherry Red. Rock music cranking from the speakers is loud, but not so loud that you can't hear your tablemates.
