Grab a seat in Davis Street Fishmarket's dining room or chill at the raw bar with a classic New Orleans drink such as a Hurricane, and you'll soon know why the proverbial Roger was so jolly. New Orleans Chef Charlie Raygoza has been here from the beginning and continues to tickle tongues with the likes of BBQ shrimp, Louisiana chicken and a rajun Cajun combo of jambalaya, maquechoux and red beans and rice. Of course, there's plenty of fresh fish, shellfish, pastas and salads featuring seafood and an array of North Carolina calabash - corn flour breaded and crispy fried seafood like smelt, shrimp, catfish and clams. A couple of steaks, frog legs and a Louisiana vegetarian plate round out the menu. A dessert of key lime pie is the "hallelujah" moment of your meal - it's made with authentic key limes so expect a tangy and luscious experience. They also serve Sunday brunch.

Times have changed
By dawnbetzchi on 06/20/2007
Your review is no longer accurate. Unfortunately, things have drastically changed at the once beloved Fishmarket. Charlie was forced out and his presence is greatly missed. The cozy, friendly, casual bar and barfood are gone. It is now an upscale, overpriced seafood restaurant. It is no longer the vision of the original owner/creator Steve Prescott. Which is fine, he no longer owns it, just change the name and save the memories!

Change is not always good!
By maddago on 03/19/2007
I've been going to DSFM for years until, they had the motif change. The food and service is not up to par at all. I was there last year, sat outside, service was terrible. Food was cold and my glass was always empty. Went last week, 3.14.07 the chowder was so rich butter was settling on top it was tasteless. I had a salad that the dressing was so much and the lettuce was ice-burg instead of romaine. I will never return. Blue Plate club is so overrated. I have ate seafood all over the U.S, been to every famous oyster shack across the nation, and Davis street is the worst I’ve had. Service, quality and cleanliness were the worst. .

This has been my all time favorite seafood place since it opened 20 years ago. The food is still fantastic....Thankyou Charlie!!!! The ciopinno never fails to please and the tuna medallions are so fresh and tasty. My mother's crabcakes are the best, but Charlie's come in a close second! I'm sorry to say though, that in the past couple of years the ambiance has changed and it's not the place it used to be. The "oceanside feel" is gone and it has a much more upscale feel with the prices to match. But I'll keep coming as long as Charlie is there to do what he does so well.
