When it comes to food -- especially when it's comfort food -- Chicagoans take things seriously. From hot dogs and pizzas to steaks and ribs, if a Chi-Town restaurant doesn't get it right, it's certain to be out of business in no time. Something right is going down at Fireplace Inn, where they've been racking up the ribs for more than 30 years. Established in 1969 by Dick Novak, this family-owned spot in Old Town caters to the young professionals who have taken over the area. In the winter, Fireplace provides a warm, cozy atmosphere with several fireplaces. An outdoor all-seasons patio features a fully retractable top. The patio also features 14 televisions -- dominated by a 70" big screen -- allowing for unparalleled viewing of all major sporting events provided by a satellite system. Feeling really hungry? Go for the gusto and order the BBQ Lovers Delight: one-quarter chicken, baby back ribs and Texas beef ribs.

I so want to like the Fireplace Inn
By WheezerTheGeezer on 06/06/2008
This is one of the coolest looking joints in the Andersonville/Lincoln Sq. area. Plenty of parking (lot is small but street parking is plentiful). The covered "outdoor" patio area gives the illusion of al fresco dining all year long. So what's wrong? Simply stated, the food sux! I remember it not being so bad but in April 2008 my wife and I visited expecting a decent meal. It was so bad that we couldn't believe it. The chicken quesadillas we ordered were awful... uh, where was the chicken in these pathetic things. The wait staff has also gone down the tubes. Dear Fireplace: PLEASE do something about your menu/cook staff and also hire some competent servers who are interested in working. It would be a shame for your great space to fold on account of this. I give it two stars and I'm being generous because of what you 'used' to be.

Good ribs and chicken

Prices are a bit on the high side but if you stick to there signature items such as the barbeque chicken and ribs you will not be disappointed. I would also recommend the vodka lemonades.
