Hideout   

Tucked in a corner between the expressway and the river, the Hideout is well-hidden. But it is worth finding, because it offers an intimate, family atmosphere and some of the city's cult favorites in rock, blues, country and spoken word entertainment. There is a front room devoted to chatting and drinking, while a back room hosts the live performers and parties.Community benefits and parties including free (or cheap) mouth-watering buffets are common, and everyone seems to know each other. There is live music several times a week including almost every weekend -- local favorites Devil in a Woodpile are frequent performers, as are other well-known blues and country rocksters. The Hideout Block Party -- a two-day festival of music, food and kids' activities -- is held each September. -- Kari Lydersen
