Authentic food thats this good is not easy to find downtown, but Ashkenaz serves it up in an unassuming, quaint atmosphere. Mostly a hotspot for cream cheese loaded bagel breakfasts, dont overlook the sandwich options filling the quintessential deli chalkboard. The most notable offering is the moist, lean corned beef sandwich available, as are all of the lunch offerings, in regular or loaded sizes. For smaller portions go with delicious spinach knishes, cheese blintzes or crispy potato pancakes. Extras include an assortment of sides like chunky chicken and rich potato salad, and kreplach and matzo ball soups. For dessert dont miss one of three kinds of freshly baked rugalach. One of the signatures of a true Kosher deli, Ashkenaz also offers Nova lox by the pound, along with bulk meats, cheeses and other traditional Jewish fixings. -- Meghan Murphy
