As the owners tout, this is ''where the city that works eats.'' And, people certainly have good reason to eat here: This is one of the best steak houses in the country. In fact, some diners work up quite an appetite before hand -- one big enough to devour the 64-ounce porterhouse. Don't despair if your work ethic doesn't necessitate eating 64 ounces of anything, though. You'll find a more reasonable 16-ounce New York strip or prime rib, a 10-ounce filet (all USDA Prime, hand-cut on the premise and aged a minimum of three weeks), or, if you're feeling really lazy, items like broiled swordfish with sherry butter or a big bowl of Caesar salad. The name and reputation bring lots of tourists, but Chicagoans flock here as well, as evidenced by the photograph-covered walls -- a veritable who's who of the city's political, social and business communities, gangsters and all. Founder Henry Norton opened the Chicago Chop House in 1986 after nearly 30 years of bar-owning experience. His legacy lives on in the capable hands of three partners: VP of Operations Susan Gayford, General Manager John Pontarelli and Executive Chef William Farrahi. Regardless of the hours you've put in this week, you deserve a visit.

NEW IN CHICAGO? Stop here first...eat, then hang out at the piano bar to find out what Chicago's all about. Meet the most informed and witty people, who will make you fell at home. I know, I've been going there since it opened, and I been to them all. The Chicago Chop House is realtime, classy, entertaining, great for family, friends and business. I spent 30 years in Chicago's and the Nations's resturants, entertaining my customers...The Chop House, Gene and Georgettis, Faces,Sweetwater and 100 others. The best of them is The Chicago Chop House. Enjoy and tell'em "Freddy" sent you. By the way...there's 3 owners...Susan, John and Bill. All sweethearts. I wish I could be there with you, I know you're going to have a time to remember.Enjoy.

Over Priced?!?

That's a joke. Compare the ChopHouse prices to other steak houses in the city. You receive a spud and salad with your dinner. The other places are charging you more for the same size steak and everything else is extra. Keep going to Pondarosa and leave the seats available for those of us that can appreciate a quality dining experience!

"""The Chop House is run and owned by John Pontarelli. John knows everybody in town. He was a Rush St.bartender whose dream has come true.""" Gotta love this quote... Yes the Chicago Chop is the best in town and cheaper then most steakhouses that are comparable. However It wasn't John's dream he walked into someone elses that gave him an opportunity to be part of a dream. He doesnt own the chop house he is a small and as of running it, well thats a whole different story for a different day.

Every time I come to town I dine at the Chop House. It is the best steak in town and money well spent!
