Clearly a neighborhood saloon, Goldyburgers manages to attract burger aficionados from all points despite its rather tatty appearance. The place dates back to 1926, and by the end of a long night of food, drink and smoke, it looks it. Mention memorable burgers, however, and Goldyburgers is usually on a top 10 list of bests in the Chicago area. If appearances give you the willies, make your first foray to this Forest Park staple in the warmer months when you can dive into the two-fisted mass o' meat al fresco in the modest patio. The Goldyburger, a half-pound baby, features a nicely crisped exterior and a succulent interior with the usual lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle accompaniments as well as fries. You can snazz it up with bleu cheese and bacon for a more gourmet experience, but why mess with perfection? For the truly famished, the Big Daddy weighs in at three-quarters of a pound. Warm up with a bowl of homemade soup like thick potato or split pea. Other choices include fried shrimp, shrimp cocktail, chef salad, Polish, bratwurst, chicken breast sandwiches and a Friday night ocean perch fish fry.

I can't believe anyone thinks these are the best burgers. A lump of charcoal would've been more tasty.
