Hackney's On Harms   

With a North Shore history dating back to the late 1930s, Hackney's has grown to six restaurants, all known for the hefty Hackneyburger. One-half pound of oval-shaped beef, sporting a crusty exterior, is situated upon fresh rye bread and served with fries, slaw and raw or grilled onions. Utensils may be in order to sufficiently consume this ode to an American classic. Many choose a side of the signature french-fried onion rings that are served in a hot, crispy loaf. Not in the ''moo'' for a burger? There are daily specials such as hot turkey served with rich mashed spuds, stuffed chicken, comfort-inducing potpie and fried walleye and lake perch. Serving so many burgers (about five tons of beef per week) to countless numbers of diners over the years means fairly streamlined, prompt service.
