Bored with the usual pork or beef hot dogs found all over town? Trek to this no-frills, North Side shop for some wild things in buns. Hot Doug's, which returns following a fire in early 2004, features exotic meats disguised as hot dog treats. Owner Doug Sohn offers the extreme carnivore just about every meat imaginable, including rabbit, kangaroo, ostrich, elk, duck, pheasant, boar and alligator. For those on the hunt for more traditional dogs, beef, chicken sausage and even veggie versions are offered. Whatever your flavor, Hot Doug's features condiments to fit every taste, from Chicago-style toppings (tomato, onion, pickle, celery salt) to the more exotic (shredded crawfish mustard, marinara sauce, tomatillo). In its new home, which is down the street from the original location, Hot Doug's offers outdoor patio seating.
