People beyond the Uptown neighborhood are finally discovering this unpretentious and moderately priced Mexican eatery in Uptown. Rique's, which doesn't skimp on flavor just because it's a little neighborhood joint, offers generous portions and unexpected flavors. You'll find only about 55 seats crammed inside this intimate space, yet owners keep it warm with vivid Mexican colors, artwork and music. Fans have fallen for such specialty items as the torta ahogado (a sandwich layered with marinated, grilled chicken, lettuce, refried beans, sour cream and soaked in a chile sauce), chicken Tinga, achiote marinated whitefish with in a chipotle-tomato sauce, and a chicken breast in a tomatillo-pumpkin seed sauce. For vegetarians, there is a dish called Rajas con Hongos y queso. Come back on Sunday for an alternative to the usual brunch, as Rique's features such mouth-watering selections as the eggs chorizo, chilaquiles with grilled chicken and stuffed brunch burritos (with eggs, cheese and meat). On Sundays, you'll also be treated to fresh papaya and warm Mexican cookies.

Great Eats!
By bumbuluno on 10/20/2006
I've been to Riques several times and decided to write a review after I read that first bad review it got. Guys, this is a great place! Don't let that one bad review stop you from getting excellent, authentic Mexican food. Enrique himself is usually there-always cordial and ready to make your time there fabulous. My favs: the Tinga, the Shrimp Ceviche and the Huevos Motuleños.

Not bad food,horrible service
By trpt2345 on 01/23/2006
An interesting neighborhood place, decent food but flawed service. Our drink order was incorrect twice, we had to ask for silverware. It took forever to get a waiter to acknowledge us, and an eternity to get our orders, even though it wasn't at all crowded-there was one other table besides us. We got our orders one hour after we sat down. The food, once it arrived was good but cold. Portions were small and overpriced. We won't be going back.

Worth the trip to Riques

You and your friends must get yourselves over to this wonderful restaurant. I go there for the Sunday bruches which are delicious and creative. All this at an affordable price. Look forward to a good time.

Rave for Riques
By kdleh on 02/12/2004
This place is a little gem. The unusual regional dishes are flavorful and warm -- adventerously spiced, but not too hot. I love the Saturday night Noche Mexicanas, with very soleful, live Mexican music; each week a differernt region is featured. I'm hooked.
