Leon's Bar B Que specializes in generous portions of meaty ribs, hot links (the Southern version of Bratwurst), fried perch and fried chicken smothered in their famous BBQ sauce (mild or hot). Like Harold's Chicken Shack, which is also famous for its sauce, Leon's is an institution on the South Side. A fixture since 1940, outposts can be found in almost every neighborhood where customers come early morning or late-night for their favorite dishes. For those who cannot make up their mind, order The Big Combo, a heaving platter of ribs, perch, chicken and hot links. Calling ahead with your order is highly recommended, as it's a long wait as each order is made on the spot. Also, during the late-night hours, the crowd usually gets pretty loud and sometimes a little rowdy.
