The Signature Room could serve sloppy joes on a dirty floor and still fill up on a Friday night. That's how alluring the view from the top of the Hancock Building is to the legions of out-of-towners and the occasional noodling couples who fill the place each night. Corporate executive chef Michael Pivoney and executive chef Patrick Sheerin offer a respectable menu of contemporary American food with French influences that's just interesting enough to placate foodies without scaring off conventioneers who take comfort in the chicken breast, steak, salmon, rack of lamb and the obligatory vegetarian pasta. After all, everybody says that it isn't what you eat, but where you eat it, and a quiet window seat one thousand feet above the honking, swearing, jostling reality of Michigan Avenue is a pretty good place to prove them right, even if you have to pay a little extra for the privilege. If you aren't in the mood for a full meal, but would like to relax with a cocktail and a stellar view, bypass the 95th floor restaurant, and head to floor 96 for the Signature Room Lounge.

Terrible, yet expensive, food.
By gleela82 on 07/04/2008
The food here is AWFUL. I literally laughed a loud when I saw the size of my tasteless appetizer... $15 for literally 2 bites worth. Tasteless, bland, and we waited over an hour for a table we reserved. Maybe that's the usual there, but I honestly cannot understand how this place stays thriving, despite the view (which you only get in certain areas of the restaurant). You ask me to name my LEAST favorite food and dining experiences, and this restaurant is the answer for both.

Watch the lights go on

We love to go to the Signature Room and watch the lights come on all over the city! The food is outstanding. The sides are large enough for 2 to share. The white and dark chocolate mouse cake is my favorite desert. It is definately a "special occasion" place for us.

save time and money

If you are only interested in the view, skip an expensive dinner and drinks. Just go to the washroom. The view inside the washrooms is beautiful and FREE!!!

Absolutely Pathetic!
By swimm3r137 on 01/25/2007
My girlfriend took me here for our 1st year anniversary. I was excited and it felt nice to dress up, but the food was ******* pathetic. She spent I think at least 150$ on the worst food I've ever had in my life. To be honest, I cannot think of any reason why someone would want to eat their gross lobster bisque, try to peal the chicken and lamb from the bone where its 90% fat (LOW QUALITY), gain 10 lbs, clog their vains, barely fit into their pants or dress after and waste their money; just to look spiffy in a suit and tie to impress their gf/bf by throwing their amex at the waitor for a easy 500$ tab for 4 people. First of all, this place is only rated as one of the nicest places in Chicago ONLY FOR THE VIEW AND ONLY IF you get seated at the window or on the second floor, which might I say is only reserved for parties. (obviously, it's very unlikely to get a good view, or even a view of the city at all). Okay, and one more thing. The tiramisu. Sigh...SICKENING! I think she spent probably 20$ on one tiny piece, which tasted like some run-down Mcdonald's version. Unlike most people, I have good taste in food and I will certainly NOT spend money, 100$ or even if it's 15$ for shitty food. I will absolutely NEVER go here again. Let me say one last thing- Anyone who says this place was amazing has clearly bad taste in what goes inside their mouth or just couldn't tell the difference because swiping their husband's no-limit amex always has the same flavor. The water was the only thing I liked here, but regardless, I wouldn't go here again even if they offered me a lifetime free card. Some might say "You probably just had a bad experience." Okay, I can understand that perspective, but my main issue is the service and food quality is NOTHING like the stereotypical picture people have of such a elegant, romantic, lovely food quality, excellent service, beautiful view, and "Great food = More money" thinking. My advice- pregame so you won't notice. lol =D~
