All bar food is not created equally, and Hyde Park Tavern and Grille intends to prove it. Baked brie on a bar appetizer menu? Believe it. This Tavern chooses not only unusual dishes, but also dishes done unusually well. While we normally expect to see crab cakes on most menus these days, the ones here are quite a treat: less breading and more succulent lump crab meat with a hint of Old Bay, a perfect nod to the owner's native Maryland delicacy. A dozen different gourmet pizzas made with homemade dough and a secret, signature sauce are another option. Cedar plank salmon, grilled steaks and cheese-stuffed ravioli demonstrate that this menu offers more than mere beer-and-booze soothers. It's difficult to miss this hot spot along Erie Avenue in Hyde Park -- two houses now fused together with a massive patio and fountain out front beckon as you drive by. The best part: a parking lot in the back, making it one of the few restaurants in this East Side 'burb with its own lot.
