the service was awful: it took forever to get somebody to talk to us, even after a man (who i assumed was the owner) came and asked if we'd been taken care of: when i told him no, he said he'd send someone right over, but that didn't happen. when the waitress did finally arrive, she was both pushy and inattentive; she persisted in trying to sell us a bottle of wine even after we told her we weren't interested, and kept "suggesting" the most expensive things on the menu even after we told her we were just looking for something simple. the drink i ordered took 15 minutes to arrive and had to be sent back twice to get it right (besides being way overpriced at $7.50), my girlfriend's salad came with the wrong dressing, and the waitress left the wine list and specialty drinks menu on our table until she was asked to take them out of the way. and the list could go on. my girlfriend went to speak with the owner to let him know how unacceptable this all was, and he seemed concerned and said he'd take care of it, but nothing happened to improve the service even after that (which he wouldn't know, because he never came back to ask us). when it came, the food was nothing special, and again, was way overpriced for both the quality and the quantity. having lived in new york until just a few months ago, i can promise you that the people who compare this place favorably to a new york italian restaurant must be talking about the pizza hut on times square; i can name a dozen italian restaurants in the city that are less expensive, have higher-quality food, and give you impeccable service. i won't be going back to this place, and i would not recommend it.

Plenty of vegetarian dishes, excellent appetizers, lively, eclectic decor, good service and a cordial owner. Highly recommended!
