Sushi places have become dining hot spots, with trendy Beluga topping the local list. This contemporary, upscale restaurant creates an urban, mod feel with minimalist decor and cool-colored walls. Sitting just off Hyde Park Square, the place screams "date night," attracting young, hip, professionals and adventurous diners. A small bar overlooking the Zen-like rock garden provides a pleasant space to wait for a table. The menu mixes East with West, including extensive a la carte and entree sushi menues and American favorites such as pasta with fresh scallops and rack of lamb. Still, Japanese fare dominates, with tempura, tonkatsu (a Japanese pork loin) and such traditional appetizers as pot stickers and spring rolls. Sushi novice? Have no fear: servers are well versed and will guide you through an authentic dining experience. -- Annie McManis

Over-Rated
By mywish79 on 09/18/2004
Beluga is way too Over-Rated. First of all, the hosts look like the chinese mafia with no pleasant smiles or greetings. The atomosphere of the place is cold and a bit horrific with the hosts experessions, giving you chills. This place is a "wannabe" an up-scale resteraunt with unsufficient menu pricing that is nt reasonable enough for just "sushi". Sushi is get, but Jungle Jims can make it the same and fresher. But if you are looking to go broke just to appear posh and stylish then this might be the place for you. It's not authentic at all, but just a mix of things. It seems the place it charging people a high price to pay the debts for their decor which appears to be very lavish and nice, but not worth the dinner menu prices that one must pay. The sushi was good, but like I said, the place is over-rated and expensive for some of the dishes it offers, which can be found elsewhere for a cheaper menu price.
