Rope in a seat in any one of four Dixie Chili restaurants and you'll likely rub elbows with Northern Kentucky seniors. Is the Golden Buckeye discount especially large here? Not exactly. The chili is, however, especially good, and has been a staple of residents' diets since the first store opened in 1929. Most came as kids and feel right at home in the art deco-inspired joint. Today's families still enjoy the Cincinnati-style chili, served up on its own, spooned over a steamed dog or piled high over a plate of spaghetti and layered with onions, beans and a mountain of freshly-grated cheddar. Salad lovers rave over the homemade dressings and rate Dixie's Greek Salad as one of the city's best. Specialty sandwiches are piled high with meats and cheese between hearty slices of Big Sky bread. Go the high-cholesterol route if you like and top it with hard-boiled egg slices. Looking for something a little lighter?
