When does four plus five equal the perfect ten? When Jean Robert de Cavel has his way. The former chef of five-star restaurant Maisonette turned the former four-star eatery Pigall's into a nationally recognized dining destination in record time. Jean-Robert at Pigall's, like its chef-owner, is French but unpretentious, creative but not overpowering. The prix-fixe menu offers a three-course meal (appetizer, entree and dessert) for a scant $75 (not including alcoholic beverages and gratuity), and features elegant choices, such as buffalo tenderloin, roasted duck and sauted sea scallops. (The menu changes seasonally.) Servers are more than knowledgeable about the menu: they're experts in the art of fine dining. The house sommelier can offer assistance in selecting the perfect bottle of wine from a wine list that has been recognized as one of the finest in fine dining. Already a star in his new hometown of Cincinnati, Jean-Robert has also received numerous national recognitions, being named as one of Esquire Magazine's Top Twenty Restaurants in 2003.

Jean Robert's sommelier can match wine as well as anyone, and reasonably priced! The maitre-de, Richard Brown, is unparalleled. Overall experience. 5-star.

"Our" birthday
By jnajar1 on 11/19/2004
Hubby and I and another couple celebrated three of our birthdays at once on 11/13 by dining here. We were quite pleased with everything served, and the sommelier actually guided us to a LESS expensive wine than the one we'd chosen. (His suggestion was enjoyable.) The only downside to our dining experience was the geriatric group seated nearby; a 92 year old man, obviously quite deaf, shouted his way through their dinner convo, making it at times impossible for us to hear our own conversations! I'd certainly return. Jean Robert's food is sublime, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the ambiance is delightfully NOT stuffy or pretentious! Well done, Jean Robert!
