The manager at Los Portales explains that the name is Spanish for "big portals." Well, then, step right through these doors where everything is big. From the large, spacious dining room to the large plates on which authentic Mexican dishes are served (in huge portions, of course), this one is big fun for Mexican-food lovers. Even the drinks are grande: From the 32-ounce draft beers to the 40-ounce Monster Margarita, you'd better come thirsty. The menu offers up a cornucopia of tamales, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas and steaks, as well as a vegetarian section, a kids' menu and seafood specialties. Don't know your chalupas from your sopapillas? The menu has a helpful dictionary to get you through your Mexican feast. A stand-alone restaurant that's easily spotted at its Skytop Pavilion location, Los Portales has big savings at happy hour, with all drinks at half-off prices. Just take it easy on those Monster Margaritas.

Disapointing! 8/8/07
By flowerfancy58 on 08/09/2007
We went for lunch at the new location in Montgomery. The decor was pleasant, place nice and clean........but the food was so boring. Very bland indeed. Not my idea of authentic Mexican food. Nothing special here at all. Taco Bell is actually tastier. Pass this one up!

GOOD FOOD!!
By veewee33 on 01/30/2007
We were very surprised about the food. It was VERY good. The dinner we got was to serve 2 but it could have easily fed 3 or 4. Being run by people who actually know how to cook mexican is a plus.It is definately our favorite mexican restuarant around. Thank you.

Bland food overun by screaming
By mgorms on 12/27/2006
Food was bland, glorified taco bell, overun by screaming kids I can't believe its still openned. There are so many other choices of authentic Mexican food that I would not waste my time with this place. The only reason I would go back would be to have a beer. The salsa tasted like catsup.
