Slap on a bib and pile up the wet naps -- this Mt. Healthy joint serves up juicy, hickory-smoked selections that please even the finickiest barbecue connoisseurs. The brightly colored house that sits along Compton Road has been serving up barbecued choices since 2000, and has developed raving fans nationwide. Inside, the place is decorated in Southwestern-pig-whimsy style, adorned with twinkling lights, festive pig portraits and cowboy paraphernalia throughout. The "nothin' fancy" attitude keeps it simple and focuses on the main event: the barbecue. First, pick your centerpiece: beef brisket, pulled pork, baby back ribs, pulled chicken or salmon, any of which is slow-cooked over genuine Texas hickory chips. Then, add a couple of down-home side dishes, like creamy mac and cheese, cinnamon apples, collard greens, deviled eggs or homemade cornbread. Top it off with a piece of homemade apple pie, peach cobbler or creamy bread pudding. Barbecue fanatics pick the place time and time again as one of the city's best.

Just go and try it
By PCYSWIMMERMOM on 05/31/2008
We as a family have frequented this place many many times over the years. As it may not be a 5 star resteraunt it is VERY family friendly. The owner, Diane is hands down a great women, as is her cute daughter. I have had almost everything on the menu at one time or another and my favorite is the texas chili mac with the smoked cheddar on top. Also, the pork chops are magnificient. I am not a big fan of pulled pork myself but the brisket is also very good. Whatever you have try a dab of the Carolina sauce on it, you'll be glad you did. So, just go try it and when you do ask for Diane, she will come out sit at your table and chat with you as she does with most customers. What other place will that happen in?

A good friend told me this was the place to go however I found it to be dirty, tons of fat in the meat, cold potatoes & rude service people-- It will be a cold day for me to try this nasty place again.

Fantastic

In a town that prides itself on boiled ribs with ketchup as being the best, sweet pizza as being the best, watery chili as being the best, it's just wonderful that a real barbecue place can survive, let alone thrive. This is real. Smoked for hours and hours, the meat doesn't even demand sauce. The smoke (and rub) does it all. The sauces are fine, too, though. "Syrupy"? Did the writer try the north carolina, vinegar-based sauce? This is the best barbecue I've had in the city. The sides blow one away as well (try the garlic butter boiled potatoes or the pinto beans). This place will smoke your meat for you!! Bring in anything, and for a dollar a pound, you get barbecue of whatever you like. This place is unbelievable.

Cthulu Barbecue
By invstrat on 10/07/2006
I've eaten barbecue in Texas, Alabama, Florida, and heck even Vancouver and I have to say hands-down this is the worst barbecue I've ever encountered. From the syrup-like sauces to the luckwarm and chewy ribs to the rubbery (olive-topped!) devilled eggs, it was horrifying. The cornbread was too soft, the macaroni and cheese a pale clumpy monstrousity with a paste-like flavorless sauce that would give H.P. Lovecraft the shivers. As for the brisket, that was the worst. I still feel dirty about that. Clotted, greasy meat that had more in common with Mrs. Grundy's canned pot roast in the school cafeteria than actual barbecue, it was somthing (I had thought) which had been outlawed during the Geneva Convention. All hyperbole aside, avoid this place at all costs. If you want good barbecue in Cincinnati, I would highly suggest Goodie's or Mr. Pigs. On the plus side, the decor was nice.
