Hundreds of chain-store chili parlors permeate Cincinnati neighborhoods. In such a competitive market, it's hard to believe an independent could survive, let alone thrive. But this independent is the pride of the West Side. People come for the Cincinnati-style chili, of course, but just as many are tempted by the meaty double deckers, overflowing with freshly sliced deli meats and cheeses. Specialty sandwiches, like the Big Sam -- a double-decker cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion and a scoop of slaw -- keep them coming back, too. Goetta and eggs top the list of early-morning offerings, although breakfast is served all day, everyday. On Sunday mornings, the restaurant fills up as quickly as the churches let out. But there's more to this place than good grub. Price Hill Chili connects to one of Price Hill's most popular watering holes, The Golden Fleece. They share a decor heavy in Cincinnati sports memorabilia, but by and large their commitment is to neighborhood teams, with Elder and West High trophies soaking up the wall space. -- Lisa Jonas
