Built in 1882, the tri-state area's only four- star hotel was originally called The Palace, and a night here is still the closest you'll get to being treated like royalty in the Queen City. The crash pad of choice for visiting celebs, The Cincinnatian has played host to everyone from Margaret Thatcher to Billy Joel, who, during one of his stays, famously played the lobby's grand piano until 2 am. Today, the hotel is listed on the national register of historic places, but by the early '80s it had become dilapidated and was close to being demolished. A group of local investors intervened, however, and the hotel finished a $23 million renovation in 1987, its old-world opulence fully restored. The 147 rooms feature high ceilings, richly detailed wood furniture, and posh amenities like Roman bath tubs and luxurious linens. The Emery Presidential Suite, the hotels finest room, includes two bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a whirlpool, and two fireplaces -- for $1,500 a night. Downtown Cincinnati's restaurants and attractions are all within easy walking distance. Should you choose to dine in, the Palace Restaurant is justifiably acclaimed for its inventive American cuisine and gracious formal service. High tea in the Cricket Lounge is a local tradition; book reservations well in advance. -- Jennifer Van Vleck

The Cincinnatian Hote

We spent 2 nights at the Cincinnatian Hotel and have to say that it is strictly first class. Our stay there was one to be remembered, and a Hotel we will frequent again upon our next visit to Cinci. We could not have asked for a more luxurious room and the service was Superb. The food was 5 star as well.
