It's hard to believe one pizza joint can cause such a fuss, but Dewey's certainly stirred life into an old pizza town when it opened its first location in Oakley. Forget about chain-store pizza parlors: Dewey's is one-of-a-kind. The hand-tossed crust, fresh ingredients and unique toppings could easily give it a gourmet classification, but down-to-earth pizza lovers adore it so much that it's hard to call it fancy. The crust is thin but chewy, and choices include traditional toppings or specials like barbecue chicken, caprese (a white pizza) or the Green Lantern (red sauce, mozzarella and goat cheese, minced garlic, mushrooms, pesto and artichokes). A fine wine list and eight beer choices are a nice draw, as well. The location right on Oakley Square makes it a prime people-watching spot. Expect to see young professionals, couples, singles and a few families out here every night of the week. -- Annie McManis

Hair in food
By valetpkr on 06/08/2007
We dined their recently, I had a long black hair on my pizza. As I talked to the long black haired cashier about the hair, he said "It aint mine" we laughed. They would refund our money or even remake a new pizza, just said---it aint mine.
