The word most often associated with Twist, a small club on the border of Lakewood and Cleveland, is "diverse." It fits. Twists offers plenty of twists to its mostly gay clientele, from the unique music choices -- anything from retro to R&B to rockabilly -- to the make-your-own-bloody Mary specials. Folks converse around the square bar situated in the middle of the space, while dancing takes place on the adjacent floor and up on the risers, where an additional seating area with a view of the dance floor is provided. Happy hours are more like happy days, with drink specials running from early morning until early evening. A downstairs bar with room for around 60 people is open on Fridays and Saturdays, and is perfect for private parties the rest of the week.

No dancing. That's fine...

I don't understand why so many gay men think every bar/longue needs a dancefloor. There are spaces that are designed for a good drink, conversation and relaxation. This is one of those places. The decor is spare but very nicely done. The drinks aren't overpriced and they have a good selection on liquors on-hand. My biggest gripe is that, since this place was designed more to be a social lounge, the music is far too "danceclub" oriented and much too lound to have a proper conversation. I'm sure the owner is trying to cater to everyone but the whole intention is lost because of this. Try some ambient grooves, acid-jazz, trip-hop or ultra-lounge. That would work much better in this setting. If you want to dance. Go to the Grid. Get a clue.

Even though I still miss the Twist as a dance club, the new one is nice also. The Decor is nice, the owner is great, the bartenders are okay, and most of the clientele are sociable and unpretentious. The music, even though there is a lot less bump and grind than the old Twist, it is still good.I will definitely come many more times, whether it is for happy hour or at night.
