Sushi is sushi, but downtown's Sushi Rock finds a way to inject a dose of rock 'n' roll into the seafood creations that distinguish its menu. Maybe the restaurant's electricity is the product of its uniquely hip decor: fluorescent reds, pinks and purples dominate the color scheme of the two-floor seating area, where framed images of distorted cityscapes line the walls like windows into the brain of Timothy Leary. Even more exciting though is the sushi menu itself, full of unusual combinations that are as phenomenal as they are unlikely. Dine-in or take-out and try Sushi Rock's Big Rolls, large portions of sushi like the Spicy Crunch (spicy tuna, yellowtail, salmon, spicy sauce and crunchy tempura scallion) and the Crazy (Unagi, avocado, masago and cream cheese deep fried). Traditionalists can stick to the regular maki rolls or the salads, steaks and cooked seafood platters that fill the rest of the menu. -- Konstantine Simakis

Get Real

Cleveland would be dead last if you had a "Best Cities for Sushi" contest. Only Pittspuke would be in the competition for worst. We have about 50 sushi bars here in Scottsdale, all with better food, better service, better atmosphere, better attitude, better price, better booze, better ladies, better, better, better. Sushi in CLE is a joke. I do miss Yours Truly for breakfast, Tom Hamilton on the Indians radio broadcast, Sunoco 94, and my veterinarian, Nancy Disbrow.

Need one everywhere!

I love the sushi there (the big rolls); and cannot find another place to replace it. The West 6th Street staff have been nothing but wonderful. I have not gone to the Beachwood location; since downtown Cleveland was closer to home. (Westlake).
