Mama Santa's pizza has a legendary presence in historic Little Italy -- patrons will walk by the neighborhood's ritzier bistros to actually wait in line for one of Mama's homemade pies. The ambience is super casual and a great place to get in touch with one's inner teenager -- checked tablecloths and Chianti bottles are the sole efforts to dress up the wood-paneled dining rooms. Sicilian home-style dishes include all the staples; fettucini is available with garlic and oil, red sauce, and a variety of other sauces and toppings. Another good choice is the veal pizzaiola, which is prepared with white wine, onions, green pepper and mushrooms. But for over 60 years it's been Mama Santa's homemade pizza that brings customers back time and time again. No silly toppings like pineapple or ham are included on the menu here. Instead go for the classic anchovy or pepperoni. Beyond the pizza, the other delightful surprise at Mama Santa's is the economical price, perfect for families dining on a budget, or teens on a study date. Best of all, you can always order takeout and enjoy Mama Santa's home-style goodies, well, at home.

I consider myself to be a connoisseur of pizza, and Mama Santa's is the best in the city -- by a thin slice of pepperoni. I've been going across town for years whenever I need a fix of the best sauce and crust in town. It's also noteworthy that the owner has yet to raise his prices befitting the best in town. That says a lot about the kind of people they are. I know lots of people would pay more for the pie at M.S. I have yet to try their pasta dishes, but a friend of mine who is pure Italiano assures me that their pasta and sauces are of the same high quality and taste as their pizza. I know I'm just another guy drooling over pizza, but trust me, this is pizza you must try at least once. It will spoil you forever. Enjoy!
