The Art Bar is a "home away from home for the tragically hip, the tri-curious, the drunkards, the beatniks, the disenfranchised and any other regular bar patron that enjoys a little funk in their function." That statement -- borrowed from one of the owners -- aptly sums up The Art Bar, one of Columbia's hippest nightclubs. Indeed, the club is home to some of the freshest dancing in the state, usually led by beats from one of several DJs. For example, DJs Jen and Gustavo Morales play the hottest and most diverse Latin American music the first Thursday of every month. And USC's DJ D spins out on regular Goth nights. But the bar serves up much more than a dance spot for the offbeat -- it also hosts regular meetings, get-togethers and even performances. The Art Bar Players, for instance, hold regular improv comedy shows here. So does the Art Bar Euro Motorcycle Club, an informal group of racy motorcycle enthusiasts who meet every Monday night at The Art Bar. The bike club also launches 100-mile motorbike rides each Sunday morning from The Art Bar's parking lot.
