It's been around since the '40s, but after almost six decades and three generations of owners, Groucho's shows no signs of slowing down. The quintessential Columbia sandwich shop, Groucho's (the original owner, Harold Miller, bore an uncanny resemblance to the cigar-toting Marx brother) uses the same high-quality meats and cheeses it did when it first opened, insuring that the quality of the food here will never slip. The menu is packed with tasty sandwich varieties, including their famous Dippers, which come with a cup of blue cheese or Groucho's famous Formula 45 sauce for dunking. Never afraid to move with the times, Groucho's now offers a low-fat menu as well that includes fat-free cheeses and their Formula 95 dressing (it's 99.5 percent fat-free).

Harden Street- Columbia loc.

While the food is good, and the atmosphere seems to be just as good, the manager's/owner's attitude is not. I was very disappointed when I was speaking with him telling him that my family and I were going to go to dinner there the night before but chose something else instead and he replied "That was almost believeable." I was shocked! He had always seemed very nice up until that point. His statement now makes me think before I consider going there at all!

A True Columbia Landmark
By jerispoon on 02/21/2007
While some franchise locations (including Lake Murray) may not be up to par, the original Harden St. Groucho's can't be beat! NO SANDWICH SHOP IN COLUMBIA can compete with a Groucho Pastrami on Rye. And the Baby Sub is an experience that can't be put into words. I suggest the previous reviewer make a pilgrimage to Five Points-he'll retract his entire statement!

Over priced, shabby, poor serv
By lucktoday on 02/20/2007
I went to the Lake Murry blvd location with my wife and daughter. We paid a high price to eat small crapy sandwitches. For something like $7 I got half a sandwitch. The atmosphire was terrible and service was poor. There was another group outside complaining about how much it cost for what they got. Don't go, there are too many places that are way better.
