Humiliated and Discriminated..
I'm not a native of Columbus, but I was there to party hard and celebrate the New Years. I had a great time with all my friends all night, and the plan was to attend some bars including Brothers. The line was very long in Brothers (understandable New Years), but we finally got to the front. The bouncer asked for our ID's. Everyone in my group of five pulled out our ID's. Without any hesitation, he checked the first four of my friends (who happened to be white). After I handed my ID to him, he told me (I am black) that I took too long to get my ID out and told me to just leave. Thinking I was the one at fault in not having my ID (come on....it's 2007.... this can't be blatant racism!?), I proceded to the back of the line with my friends who were going to wait with me. I was wearing nothing provacative. I was wearing a very nice dress shirt and a pair of black slacks and dress shoes. After the long wait, we had our ID's out ready to hand to the bouncer. He, again without any hesitation, let my friends in. He looked right at me and aggressively told me that I'm never to come here again. In total shock and humiliation, I COLLECTIVELY AND CALMLY asked him why he is doing this to just me, and he would not answer except to 'just get out of here'. My friends were VERY upset, and they were talking with all the bouncers asking why just I was getting kicked out and they weren't for doing the exact same thing. None of the bouncers would allow us to talk to a manager about this situation. They were by far the rudest people I have ever encountered. Not just rude, but racist. Our group left the bar all feeling very upset. Me, absolutely humiliated that I was discriminated against and causing my friends not to get into the bar.
Well, this is the first complaint I've ever followed through on, and I strongly advise that the manager should definitely consider getting some new employees. In fact, I am considering legal investigation.
Brothers is no place special
Let me tell you that I used to LOVE this place. It used to be a gathering place for me and a bunch of co-workers about twice a month. But, it is no longer since the bouncers are pricks, and so is management. They are racist and the bouncers are definitely on a power trip. We invited a black co-worker out with us and when he showed up, he was refused entry and they said he was violating dress code because he was wearing a white t-shirt. Whatever. You can look at this guy and tell he's no gangster, but he goes and gets a pullover and then they try to refuse him again, stating his shorts are too baggy and let me tell you, this guy is pushing 300lbs, and when you buy clothes to fit you, they will be loose fitting! They finally let him in when we all went up to them and pleaded with them. Then the 2nd time he come out with us, they totally refused him stating his pants were too baggy, but many of the guys there, including the bouncer refusing him in were wearing baggy jeans! They embarrassed this poor guy almost to the point of tears. Can you imagine being refused into an establishment because of your outfit in front of all your friends/coworkers?! I know I'D be mortified. All the bouncers are punks and have the personalities of a turd.
We ended up leaving after that and we haven't been back. We're currently looking for a new place to hang out. I don't even know WHY they have a dress code, except so they can use that as an excuse to keep out the types of people they don't like, which I firmly believe are blacks. And I'm not biased because I'm white, and 80% of the people there are white, so you make your own conclusions. And it is true about how you have to wait FOREVER for a drink. One time I was waiting 10 minutes before happy hour ended and the girl never came up to me at the bar and then told me I'd have to pay full price even though I had been waiting before it ended and she had waited on other people that got there AFTER me.
So, your $ is better spent elsewhere!
weak drinks/unauthorized charg
Get ready for a mixed drink with not even a full shot of vodka in it! Then when you try to talk to the bartender about it, get ready for him to take your credit card authorization slip away from you and not let you sign it after having requested your drink to be fixed. Then get ready for the same bartender to scream at you and tell you while waving his arms wildly to "GO AWAY". This bartender was a young college-aged kid, known to even his co-workers as a jerk . Aparently at Brothers bar and Grill you have to ask for a "double" get a full serving of liquer. Oh, and they dont have Corona beer. Come here to get screwed on your night out.
DON'T leave your card
I've have been to Brothers a few times since moving to Ohio and only enjoyed myself on one occassion. You have to wait forever to get a drink from a bartender that has NO personality. I don't care how busy you are, you smile at your customers that have waited forever to get a drink. I don't need a snot nosed kid waiting on me that doesn't know how to handle the overwhelming volume of its customers! I was SO ready to leave the establishment that I accidently left my bank card. I went back the next day to pick it up to see that they OVERCHARGED my card. There should have only been 3 blue moon's on my tab. There was 5 blue moon's and a shot of jager. I told the manager that a guy that was with us paid cash for 2 blue moon's and a shot of jager which should have been a jagerbomb to begin with. SO......there should only be 3 blue moon's. He didn't care to resolve the problem. He said that his staff wouldn't have double charged. Of course this pissed me off and I said that I would never be back and haven't been! I will tell everyone to NOT trust it's workers with a card. If you go.......don't start a tab. Pay as you go!
